So, I forgot what I was looking for when I tripped across this page here. But I thought, hmm, I wonder if this guy's being fair to the system. Now, granted, this is the Second (unrevised) edition, so I'm taking this review with a bag of salt. It thought, maybe I should reflect upon his criteque with the newer RETRO upgrades to the system?

So there's the link. Feel free to read his rather lengthy review. I will admit, he appears to be highly biased against this system, and it appears as though he's come from the realm of BESM 1e (anybody actually play that version?)
After you read that, let's come back here and discuss what's actually awesome about BESM and why we love it. (I'll come pack in a bit with my thoughts, only because I have to get to work right now!)
