So something I stumbled across. Usagi (Sailor Moon) is a 14 year-old girl in the anime, yes?
Mamoru (Tuxedo Mask) is like.... in college?

Um? Why did the American Censorship team do that?
In the Manga, Mamoru was only 16, right?

Is it possible that they directly translated "college" from Japanese without taking into account that college students in the U.S. are generally eighteen or older? I'm not familiar with the education system in Japan, so I'm just speculating.

I'm pretty sure Japanese students enter University at 18 as well. According to a quick Google Search, the Japanese education system has 12 formal years of study, similar to the United States.

This is a bit of weirdness in the old dub, yes. He's supposed to be 16, yes. We don't know why they thought that change would be a good idea, frankly. We don't know why they thought turning lesbians into cousins would be a good idea either. Their minds are a mystery and we may be driven mad if we try to understand them.
