Yesterday I got to thinking about running an adventure using Cypher, and I thought about the age old motivation for characters to go exploring: Finding Loot. So I decided that I should probably create a quick way to determine the quality of the loot. And since Cypher System uses Cyphers and Artifacts, why not create a random roll table to assist with this process. After all, if you know me from any of my other role playing games, I always have a Vending Machine tucked away somewhere for on-demand goodies!
Well, knowing that I'm totally crazy, you might want to make a Identification check (
I'm still getting used to literally littering Cyphers all around the adventure path for characters to trip over. It's quite a shift of mentality from D&D style where wondrous items are rare and difficult to be found-- only to be hoarded by the players. And I'm sure that Players need to get used to the idea of Cyphers being plentifully abundant. So, my plan to break both myself and potential players out of this rarity mindset, I'm going to flood my adventuring with Cyphers. Probably have lots of my famous vending machines, but also piles of junk. Hmm, I need to think of more ideas for where a character may trip over loot...
- 1 or 2: Mundane Junk (literal garbage, or stuff that may seem incredibly useless that has no great value... candy and soda fits in this category)
- 3 or 4: Useful Items (Tools, normal clothing, etc)
- 5 or 6: Oddities (These are fantastic, albeit weird and strange things that we don't know what their purpose was, but it's kewl and shiny!)
- 7 or 8: Manifest Cyphers (One Hit Wonders that provide extra temporary abilities)
- 9 or 10: Artifacts (More permanent than Cyphers)

Intellect: 2 -- My games, my default), which is a 6 or higher on a d20. Pretty easy right? Literally, it's probably printed in that tiny print somewhere on the packaging, assuming your character can or does read anything!I'm still getting used to literally littering Cyphers all around the adventure path for characters to trip over.
