This was my debut into anime, way back in the ancient year of 2002!
A teenage son (Ranma) and his father (Genoa Saotome) travel to China in pursue of refining their training for the Anything Goes style of martial arts. While visiting a remote cursed springs, Jusenkyo, the pair ends up involved in an accident...
The story resumes with the pair hiking back to Japan to visit the father's childhood friend Soun Tendo to fulfill a promise that Genoa would promise his future son to marry Soun's future daughter. Today is that day. But When Soun answers the knock on his door, he is greeted by a panda bear and a cute redheaded girl!...
This is a romantic comedy that focuses on manly rivalry and the fierce competition for love-- lots and lots and lots of competition. There are so many love triangles in this anime that you need a full on poster-board diagram to keep track of all the relationships!
Be prepared for a long series run though, because there were eight seasons of this great anime, and I hear there's a remake being done right now!
