The Economy

We've seen Lina put away some serious amount of food. There's always a stack of empty plates near her whenever she's in town scarfing her face. In one episode, she ordered "Ten chicken dinners", and I'm only assuming here that she's going to eat the majority of those dinners-- because there were only two other people with her.

I got to thinking about the general economy of the Realm of Slayers. We know that Gourry mentioned that a typical sword costs about 300 Silver Pieces, and that an elite palace with guards and fertile grounds would be about 30 million Gold. Keeping in mind that this anime was produced in the 90s, we can determine the general economic exchange rate based on some of this information. Based on some Google Searching, I determined that a decent quality functional sword that was manufactured in 1995 would cost between $300 and $1000 in 1995. So that means a Silver Piece would be about the equivalent of one US dollar in 1995.

Now the only question is to figure out how much a typical meal costs in the Slayers Realm...
