Urd, I believe, is an underrated character. She's very deep, and has a more complete background than probably any other character in the series. Warning Spoilers ahead!
These facts about Urd make her a truly interesting character with lots of room to play with from a fan-fiction point of view. Think about all the possibilities that could exist with only these bits of knowledge. I can see why some of my online-comrades prefer Urd to some other characters to play with!
Urd is half goddess, half demon. Her mother, Hild, the ruler of the Niflheim, (aka Hell) apparently had a fling with The Almighty One (aka Odin in Norse mythology)-- yeah, it's a bit confusing to me too, but that's my Christian upbringing mucking things up. As a result, Urd not only has the divine blood of goddesses coursing through her body, but also the tainted blood of demons, to which the Almighty One sealed away. Beginning in episode 20 (I believe), we discover that Urd has this demon half, when her Angel, World of Elegance, is revealed as having one white wing, and one black wing. We also learn that Urd is actually Belldandy's older half-sister, and that Urd actually has always looked up to Belldandy, ever since she was a child.
