Traveller is a very old game, making it's debut in the 1970s, and there are many, many, many versions of this game, with the latest being from Mongoose Publishing, second edition, being released in 2022. This is a Space Opera about galactic exploration! Think, that you're playing as Hon Solo in the Millennium Falcon, running odds and ends from one sector to another. Okay, there's more to the game than just this, and other sub-genres are explored in some of the other versions of Traveller.
I've watched a few APs (Actual Plays) on YouTube and became fascinated with the character creation system. Supposedly, you can actually die during character creation, because the game features a Life Path mechanic. You get to roll on a series of random tables in four-year increments as you navigate your career before you begin exploring the galaxy!
The game uses 2d6 as a base mechanic, and is nearly 100% Skills based. I don't believe there are any Special Abilities contained within this game, although, I haven't done a deep reading of the core rule book yet (let alone any of the numerous expansion books). However, there are several chapters detailing weapons, and even how to create your own star ship!
And after watching a few APs, it appears that this game can be quite crunchy with lots of bonuses and modifiers to remember when tackling challenges.
Have you attempted to be a Traveller? Let's talk about it!
