This morning, I got to thinking about character motivations, and how it's usually an afterthought for my own character creations. That it shouldn't be, and I realized that the difference between a strong character, like Fate, and a weak character, is the clarity of the character's Motivation. Spoiler time.
So, we know that Fate becomes an Enforcer because
I'm certain that because of these other influences, Fate chose to seek Justice rather than ultimately violating it.
But what do you think?
So, we know that Fate becomes an Enforcer because
she doesn't want the same treatment that happened to her to occur to any other child. She has a strong sense of Justice. But I got to thinking about this definition. Why did Fate choose compassion in the first place?
Like we know that there is an established pattern of abuse resulting from abuse. Statistically, many abusers were abused when they were younger. So my question is, why did Fate choose empathy over bitterness?
I'm sure some of this was because she's her own person, and she was "shown" love by proxy. She has Alicia's memories-- her love from her Mother. She also has the endearment of Nanoha, and much of the crew of the Arthra, specifically Miss Lindy.
