Unreal Engine / Re: How to Import a Vroid Mode...
Last post by Senkusha - Sunday, April 07, 2024, 19:26
OMG!  I just found a shortcut!  So after you drop your new VRoid character in, and open the RTG file, if you simply click Source and select T-Pose:

And then click Target and select T-Pose:

You get the exact A-Pose you need!

No futzing around with angles!  (I did this on a NEW Project, so none of these settings were previously applied from my original game project.)

Have fun!

Technology & Nerdy Stuff / Creative Technology Tutorial I...
Last post by Senkusha - Saturday, April 06, 2024, 20:50
I'm looking for tutorial ideas that I can whip up for any of the Creative Technology board.  If you're curious to figure out how to do something, let me know, and I'll see if I can find the answer! I'm most familiar with Unreal Engine, but I'm willing to learn about any topic.

Blender / What is Blender
Last post by Senkusha - Friday, April 05, 2024, 20:59
Blender is a free 3D modeling application that runs on most platforms.  You can not only create models, but you can also create complex animations with Blender.  There are loads of tutorials online from people all over the world.  Check out Blender on your computer today!

Gimp / What is Gimp?
Last post by Senkusha - Thursday, April 04, 2024, 10:48
Gimp is a free alternative to the massively popular Adobe Photoshop.  You can do many of the same things using Gimp, but for a fraction of the price:  FREE.  Gimp is a very powerful digital photo manipulation application, and there are many, many, many things you can do to enhance your pictures.

Some of the things I most routinely do are:
  • Crop images
  • Resize images
  • Blend multiple images together
  • Grayscale images
  • Remove the background from images
  • Change the color of parts of images

The above list is only the tip of the iceberg of things that you can do with Gimp.  It's free to download and you'll find it's plenty powerful!  It's also available for Linux too!

Unreal Engine / Monthly Freebies!!
Last post by Senkusha - Thursday, April 04, 2024, 10:33
Did you know that every month, starting on the first Tuesday of the month, Epic gives away five FREE chosen randomly from the marketplace?  These are yours FOREVER.  But you have to "purchase" them (at $0.00) in order to claim them.  You can only get these assets until last until the first Monday of the next month.

So for the month of April 2024, I saved $219.95!  And I can use these assets in ANY project I create (so long as they are compatible).  Have fun!

VRoid Studio / Let's make a Cute Magical Girl...
Last post by Senkusha - Thursday, April 04, 2024, 10:22
In this post, we're going to create a a magical with the inspiration of Sasami from Tenchi Muyo, but we're going to make her our own model.  The primary features of this character will be that she's a child, she has large side-arching pig tails, and we're going to put her in a typical magical girl looking outfit.  So the first thing you're going to want to do is fire up VRoid Studio and choose the Female base model.
Screenshot 2024-04-04 083640.png

The next thing I do, is I center-click on the model (with the scroll wheel) and drag her upwards on the screen so that I can see her entire body.
Child_1.png

Next, I chose a fairly simple feminine looking face with simple eyelashes and large sparkly eyes to capture that child-like innocence.
Screenshot 2024-04-04 084008.png

Now, let's change the eye color. You can do this by click on the Iris options on the far left hand side of the screen.  Then on the right hand side, you'll see a color option.  Click the brown color, and you can choose a new color.  I chose this lovely pink color.
Child_2.png

Next, I want those really big full eyes that most children in anime  have.  So I just maxed out the X-axis for the iris size.
Screenshot 2024-04-04 084431.png
Next, I'm going to skip the hair, and move to the Body.  I want to set the body proportions first, so that it'll make it easier to see my hair styling in the next set.  This will prevent me from going back and forth between the two tabs and making readjustments.  Since she's a child, let's put her at around the age of 10.  For most girls, that's about 50 to 59 inches, according to one website.  I just want a quick reference.  However, since VRoid Studio, like Unreal Engine uses the Metric system, we need to convert this into centimeters:  127 to 149.86.  (In feet-inches, that's 4' 2" to 4' 11").  I'm choosing to have my model in the middle, at 4' 5" or 134.62 cm.
Child_3.png

Now, I want to tweak the body a bit, however, it's a little difficult to see the exact shaping of the body with the default clothes on her, so we're going to switch over to the Outfit tab and remove those for a moment.  In order to do this, you have to go into each left side option and scroll all the way to the top of each section and select the very first option.  Blank.  I tweaked her underwear to the most minimum coverage setting as well.
Child_4.png

Now back to the Body tab, we can see what we're working with easily.  After looking through all the settings, I was pretty happy with defaults of everything already set.  Let's pick something for our character to wear, and then I'll start working on her hair.  Some of the things that I tweaked on her was the flare of the skirt.  I didn't want anything too wide, because you'll notice that when she walks, her arms are going to clip through her skirt, and that looks tacky.
Screenshot 2024-04-04 091319.png

Now, let's start working on the hair.  Here, I've chosen a simple pigtail design, but I want to adjust the bangs, and I want to make the pigtails sprout out to the sides.  We're also going to do some wild color effects too.
Child_5.png

First, we're going to change the bangs, since that's easier.  Click on the Front tab over on the far left, and now you'll have options to adjust the front style of the hair.  Good hair in VRoid Studio is built upon multiple layers.
Child_6.png

Now, let's fix the pigtails!  Over on the left hand side, click on the tab that says Extensions.  We're not choosing a new style, but we're going  to Edit Hairstyle, over on the far right.
Child_7.png

Now, the first thing I did, was I made all the hair strands Hidden.  You can do this by left clicking on the little eyeball icon next to each hair strand.  Notice that I didn't hide the Groups, only the individual strands.
Child_8.png

The second thing I'm doing is I rotated my model around 180 degrees.  You can rotate your model by right-clicking and dragging.  You can move in all the directions to get a better vantage point..  I also made the first hair strand group visible again, by toggling the eyeball icon on the left.  Now, I know exactly which hair strands I'm working with.
Child_9.png

The only thing I'm concerned about right now is the X-axis Position.  I chose 0.08.  Now I need to mirror that on the other side.  I selected Hair Strand 2, and manually typed in -0.08 (notice the negative sign!!).
Child_10.png

There's two more strands in this hair group I need to modify.  Hair Strand 3, as you'll notice is quite a bit far back.
Child_11.png

I ultimately chose 0.07, since I want it a little bit detached from the main clump of hair.  I then reflected the same thing only negative for the Hair Strand 4.
Child_12.png

The other strands of hair I did the following:
Group 2:  Strand 1, I set to 0.04, Strand 2 is -0.04/
Group 3:  Strand 1 is 0.06, Strand 2 is -0.06

Then I changed the hair color to a blue.  All I did was select the blue color on the outside circle for all three of these color option.
Screenshot 2024-04-04 101804.png

Finally, now that I'm done with this, now I'm going to save this.  Click on the X at the top left and you'll be given a save prompt.  I always choose Save as a New Item.
Screenshot 2024-04-04 102214.png
And that's a wrap!  Save your model, export as a VRM if you choose.  I'm going to follow this tutorial up with tweaking the bones of the hair to ensure they have the right bounce!

Nope.  Totally free!  Although, I might add a Donations Accepted button to the site at some point.  I refuse to put advertising on here.  But I need a little bit of extra to help mitigate the cost of running the site.  I'm still not 100% decided though.

I actually like this new look without the side panel. Makes the board look bigger & easier to focus on what we are doing versus getting distracted. I do like the Similar Topics at the bottom. That helps when people want to post something but not sure if it's already posted!
I can relate to having a vision for your forum & having to tweak it along the way. I wanted mine to be for Secular & Eco-Friendly. It still is but I have religious people & those, while they do some eco things, are not gung-ho like I am lol
Forums are hard to manage. Specific niches even more so.

If We The People don't shape up, it will just go downhill.
We The People are this country. The Government is only a handful of people compared to the rest of the population. They live in wealth regardless of what is going on in this world.
& we already have several Elites hoarding the wealth.
