Unreal Engine / Re: Useful Tips
Last post by Senkusha - Wednesday, April 17, 2024, 08:23
When using Structures, especially large Structures, instead of using the Get (S_structureName) and Spliting the output pin like this:

It's better to drag off the output pin and Break the Structure (S_structureName) like this:

Then you can control which output pins are visible:

Unreal Engine / Useful Tips
Last post by Senkusha - Tuesday, April 16, 2024, 10:18
This will be a post of running tips.  If you find anything that may be overlooked, but makes you're designing life easier, feel free to add it below!

Some useful keys when working in the editor:
End:  Plants an object to the floor.

There are colors associated with the three different axis's.

Red:  X
Yellow: Y
Blue: Z

I know this may seem trivial, but I've found that it helps with tinkering with animation and skeletal meshes.

I'll add others as they are discovered.  Have fun!

Unreal Engine / Re: Internal Functions!

And in case you ever accidentally double-click on a function (say the Greater Than (>), then you can see the C++ code (assuming you have something like Visual Studio installed.

Unreal Engine / Internal Functions!
Last post by Senkusha - Monday, April 15, 2024, 11:16
I just found this out completely by accident.  If you double-click on a predefined function (in this case, I was working with a For Loop), the Blueprint will open up and show you how the function works!  Turns out the For Loop is nothing more than a Macro! (Which we can create custom macros too.)  Anyway, in case you're interested:

Unreal Engine / Graphical User Interfaces (GUI...
Last post by Senkusha - Sunday, April 14, 2024, 07:51
I'm in the process of building a user interface for a game project, as I'm learning Unreal Engine better.  As I'm designing the interface, I got to thinking, "What are the necessary things that player would be interested in knowing, or within regards to interacting with the game world?"

Some of the things that I can think of off the top of my head are:  A health indicator, maybe an ammo bar, a radar widget to quickly locate enemies, maybe a minimap, and possibly an interface for manipulating their character's inventory.  But what else could be considered?  All the things I mentioned are pretty typical in most games.  What kinds of unique things would you like to see?

Annoucements and Updates / Message Prefixes and a New Rul...
Last post by Senkusha - Saturday, April 13, 2024, 21:59
Not much has been added lately, however, I've added a feature to include a prefix to each message in select boards.  I'll be adding more prefix categories as needed!  If you have any suggestions for prefixes, please let me know!

Also, in an attempt to cut down on potential spam accounts, I'm making a new rule that states:  New member registrations will have the period of one week to make an introduction post or risk their account being deleted.  We running a community here, and that requires participation.  Please if you haven't already done so, consider making an Introduction post so that we (the group) knows that you're not just a marketing or SPAM bot.  This policy goes into effect immediately.  (If you've already posted other places on the forum, please disregard, this notice is only for newly established accounts.)  Thank you!

That's about it!  Have fun!

That's a good idea!  What are some things that you'd like to learn how to do?

How about basic coding? I dabbled in HTML & others but sometimes it goes over my head.

The only advertising on my forum is from Proboards. I can see how people like the revenue from it.
Maybe you could sell services? I've seen that on promotion forums. People who may need a virtual hand at running a forum, the tech side, even graphics & designs. That would help give some more income. Some people don't mind paying people for help.
