In the hobby of role playing, we've got several options for learning about our favorite games. The classic debate that's been growing more intense over the years: Physical or Digital books-- Which do you prefer and why?

To be honest, I actually like both. I prefer a physical book when I'm learning the game. I just find that my brain absorbs the information easier. But at the same time, I really like having my library digital. For one, there's that really handy search function, bonus points if the PDF has a clickable/linked Table of Contents. Also, I can listen to my role playing books being read to me while I'm on the train-- although, I will admit, some of these books are dry and boring, so much so, that I've fallen asleep!

And then there's the fact that we're sitting here on the Internet, Playing by Post, so having a digital copy is super handy. Especially if I need to pass the book around (hoping everybody here is actually purchasing these books to support their favorite game systems and developers? Right RIGHT?!).

So, which do you prefer? Physical or Digital?

I just thought that I'd add. I've been making a bunch of purchases lately, and they've all been PDF's. There are two reasons: Space, but most importantly, it's been price!

I can get a PDF for between $10 and $25. The books are running over $50! And I have to wait for shipping. The way I'm seeing this now, if I need a hard copy, I'll just fire up my laser printer and burn down a few trees, grab a three-ring binder, and go off gaming.

I prefer reading physical books especially when I need to concentrate more and learn something properly. But e-books are also amazing, since I can take them with me wherever I go and can find information in a short space of time.

Physical books are fun to own, but digital books are faster for when I really need to cite something in the middle of a game. So they're usually what I use.
