This is an older movie created by John Carpenter-- you know, the same dude that wrote The Evil Dead movies? I'm actually finding that I appreciate his work much more, now that I'm older. Anyway, I haven't quite made it through the entire movie yet but, I have thoughts...
Basically, this movie came out, like 40 years ago. It was the 80s, maybe even the 70s? I'm not sure. But already a third of the way through the movie, we're introduced to the idea of State-sponsored propaganda.
There's been some conspiracy theories on the Internet for a couple of years now, with this movie featured, because the date has been mentioned of the year 2025. Interesting rabbit hole to go down there. Maybe later after I've watched the movie in its entirety.

The main character finds a stash of sunglasses, and upon wearing them, he is able to see through the illusion of Society. All the billboards, newspapers, magazines, etc, all have subliminal messaging contained within them. For example, there's a scene of a beautiful woman on a billboard advertising a beach. He puts on the sunglasses and the words are revealed in black lettering on a white background: "Marry and reproduce". Even the money he's holding in his hand reveals "This is your God", again, white paper, black text. Simple.
