I am now the proud owner of a Perpetual License for The Foundry, a Virtual Role Playing application for playing table top games. It was slightly disappointed to learn that none of the games I currently own have Modules built for the App yet, but maybe someday, I'll get off my fat butt and build a few. I was hoping that Shadow Run 4e or Big Eyes Small Mouth was at least available, but it's not. I can also confirm that Teenagers From Outer Space is also currently unsupported.
But the good news is that if I'm the Game Master, I'm the only person who needs the software. All the players can connect using just a regular web browser, and we'll have dice, maps, and character sheets available- once I build them! I think there's a chat function too.
Cool! =o That system we're about to run. I've never touched Foundry before.
I've got Fantasy Grounds. It's nice, but its 3.5 support is ... mildly disappointing. Which is slightly impressive considering it's D&D we're talking about. Makes me doubt any system except 5e is properly supported.
Well, 5e is the most popular TTRPG... or maybe it's the best marketed?
But either way, I don't really care for D&D. I think I mentioned somewhere on the Internet that I'm a fan of the Underdog...whom/what ever that may be...
Nod nod 5e ruined the game for me by completely gutting the skill system and oversimplifying things to the point of removing a decent amount of the fun. I tried it and had a tendency to get bored. Plus people just inexplicably heal from stab wounds overnight by sleeping no healer required? I'm a gamer and even I find that frustratingly video gamey. I haven't even bothered giving 5.5e a chance because I know they aren't going to fix any of that. 3.5 is like, an entirely different beast of a game, though far less popular. When I try to introduce 5e fans to it it's uh... overwhelming to them. But money talks, so y'know.
The good news is that means I've little interest in chasing the new D&D thing, which has made it easier to give other systems a chance.
The only D&D game I have in my library is 3.5 (I also have Anime 5e, but that's the closest I'll get to D&D 5e, and that's only because it's a hybrid of BESM 4e.
I've never heard of Anime 5e xD I'm sort of a retro throwback D&D knowledge wise. Most of the new stuff is foreign to me. Though honestly, 5e handled skills so overwhelmingly badly I wouldn't assume anything with the name 5e attached to it would fix them. >w< Like it'd require a full replacement.
Anime 5e, as I mentioned is a hybrid of BESM (Big Eyes Small Mouth) and D&D (Dungeon's & Dragons). Reading the intro (yet again for the umpteenth time), Anime 5e was designed to be an expansion to the D&D realm, to be used in collaboration to the plethora of material that encompasses D&D, yet, make it really easy to play within the anime shenanigans most fans want. This could be why I haven't really looked too heavily into the game, as I don't own anything else 5e, nor do I plan on investing into that franchise, because I like my PDFs.
I'm happy to just stay inside of BESM, because D&D does fantasy well, and unfortunately for me, Tolkien-based fantasy isn't my cup of tea, although I occasionally enjoy watching it. I just feel that genre is way overdone... and I'm a weirdo.
