I think that every child has a dream, to grow up and be something. It's cliche, but typical occupations like Policeman, Firefighter, Doctor, Astronaut.... are usually mentioned by the Media, but I know as a child, up until I was the age of 14, I had NO CLUE as to what I wanted to do. Then at 14, I took the elective class Computer Programming, and THAT was my destiny.

Fast forward three decades later and look at me. A Cashier. Life certainly didn't take me in the direction I dreamed of as a kid

What were your dreams growing up?

Well the first crazy dream I ever remember having as a child? It was wanting to be a professional wrestler, think WWE, TNA, AEW style for some of the most well known companies, and examples of people who do it. It was to the point where my older brother and I used to do it at home to fight each other. (A lot of kiddos did that who watched it back in the day though.) Which nothing like that ever really panned out for me. The closest I got was about...before Trump took office again.

Anyway, I was about to actually take the leap I never did and actually go to a training school to learn the form, and whatnot. However on top of the value all the Trump stuff, the money I had saved and could spare needed to go somewhere else. It's not like I was going to the class to actually seriously make it a job or anything. I likely would have just done some independent shows for fun when I could have. It was just meant to be a 'what if' in the end though. Maybe when everything gets straightened out, I might still take a class to at least LEARN the form.

But any kind of serious job from it? Probably never in the cards considering the scoliosis. Regardless that's honestly the only dream job I can remember my kiddo self having

I had a friend who dated a guy who was involved with the WWE.. he knew some of the big names, and I've been to a few matches. I've got some spoilers about the industry, that you probably already know. The insurance is mad crazy though. Quite a few of the Pros only do the WWE thing as a side-gig.

Yep, Hell a lot of the bad regarding WWE has gotten a lot worse these days since the UFC merge they did.

I wanted to make my own video games. :P ...That dream died by college when I realized how much computer troubleshooting that would involve.

I mean with the advent of Unreal Engine and Unity 3D, the dream of video game creation is actually much more attainable now... compared to when I went to college for Computer Science, we'd have to create our own game engine BEFORE the actual game code could be created, and that's WAY MORE troubleshooting.

But I get it. I had a dream for over a decade of creating my own video game. I stopped because I realized how much work needed to be dumped into the project, and with only me working on it, it'll take more time than I have years left to live-- especially since I have to work so much just to survive.

There's an old quote, "You can not serve two masters.". Typically, this is applied in religious context, the whole good vs evil, god versus satan.... but, two masters could refer to how you're choosing to spend your free time. A job versus hobbies.

Nod nod I could... write a game. But programming it would be nonstop suffering for me, I realized. :P I was signing up for something I hated doing at home.

I wanted to be a video game tester, but once I realized that it involves you playing things over and over again to make sure nothing is broken it didn't seem like it would be fun. Then I wanted to be a train engineer, but then I realized that you would have to be away from home for a while and be on call which that doesn't sound like fun.

I wanted to be a professional baseball player, I played for a couple of years during my childhood, however; I stopped playing at the age of 14.

After that, I wanted to be a webmaster that same year, and started my internet career. After 22 years of being a webmaster, I can honestly say that was my best choice that I made.

I should have pivoted into Webdev back when I was studying software development in general. I wanted to make useful applications that helped people. But I didn't see the writing on the wall, that web site applications were going to replace downloadable, stand-alone software programs. Oh well.

I have learned PHP, and I'm starting to understand OOP PHP.

... and I guess there's some new database file format called JSON now? I guess it's pretty light-weight and MySQL friendly. Compared to using XML, it's not very verbose. Lots of stuff to learn about. It's exciting! :woot:

I have always wanted to become an educator. I love kids, I love the classroom.
Well I grew up to find myself in the educational line, and I am doing just fine.
