Raises the brim of his hat, looking around at the changes as shortly he releases a shortened yawn
Place has changed a bit since I was last around, but it seems a rather pecicular topic as arosen..
Well here I go..
The Estimated price of the Nintendo is going to ball park around 249.99 which will be the most inexpensive price for a console. Which is actually a STEAL. I mean the console does not support Hi Definition quality. But! The reason for this as Nintendo did do a survey and discovered that a large percentage of homes of their target market do not own a HI-DEF tv at this time. Now, Why create a special high end quality setting on a console when the majority of the buyers won't be able to experience this high-end quality. It does dispoint some people who are willing to spend that extra $$ to see those "improved quality" but here's a key thing.
Graphics are getting soo high end that, in most situations you will not be able to see a difference. I mean a game can have good graphics and horrible gameplay and that will turn off many people. Good gameplay and handling will make anything superior, such as World of Warcraft. The graphics could be MUCH better but hey, the gameplay and functionality and versality of it makes it a very high fun factor.
Another key note about the Wii, is the compatibly with older consoles. You can download the older games and play them onto your system. The Wii will have several plug-in jacks for Nintendo Gamecube Controllers as well as GC memory card slots. Now the machine does have internal memory that can be expanded using a SD Flash Card. There was a special controller designed and released at E3. This controller is designed similar to the Super Nintendo controller with joysticks added in. This controller will be the main way to make use of the older game control fuctions. Which is highly thoughtful to the dedicated gamer.
One of the major high-notes about this Wii is the INTERACTIVE use of the system. It can be used in different means, such as you can sit there and do a FPS style game with much more ease instead of joystick handling (which makes it rather difficult, speaking from experience.) The right controller has the sensor built-in with a speciality designed "trigger" as your clicker which makes it feel more natural instead of mashing a button on top or something. As the alternate controller will be used as your movement. An idea like that is what I've been looking for, making it simple but yet fully fuctional. Now if you could do all of this wireless that would be great. But particular cables are needed for proper sync and data transfering. Otherwise higher potential for signal degradation with multiple handsets. Either way, such games as Wario Ware for the Wii allows the person to become fully involved in the system which can be viewed as a exercise requiring game such as the very popular DDR trend.
Some of the launch titles for Wii will be Mario Galaxy, (not sure if that is correct title?), what I am looking forward to is the new Super Smash Brother's game. That will air with bonus characters as Solid Snake from the MGS series as well as a few others. The added graphical detail makes the characters more realistic then simple 2-d based colored bit moving pixels. Another added title will be the new Zelda game that will be released on both the Wii and the Gamecube system. Of course there will be bonus material in the Wii addition.
There is my rant on the Nintendo Wii....
Now it is time to share my viewpoint on the PS3.
The Playstation 3 obvivious "looks" superior in graphical standards as well as technical specifications. But will game programmers be able to make full use of the system's capabilities. Highly doubtful as well they are already having major difficulties working within the Sony's CPU programming language. From what I have seen and read up on, the programmed language on the system placed heavy restrictions on programmers which makes them spend more time and effort to be able to successfully port over a multi-platform game as well as new edge. While the Xbox 360 has lesser restrictions over the competitor..
The PS3 does support that "BLUE-RAY" technology which is the exactly the same quality as HI-DEF dvds which is slowly filling the market as HI-DEF dvd players costing 499.99 at any local electronics store. But let's look at that blue-ray technology in detail. Yes it is a smaller laser that will allow more data to be stored onto these data disks which can allow more game data to stored on these disks which gives more room for lee-way code. But in all honesty, games do not need to be high in capacity.
The truth being programmers are being lazy in their codes instead of working around tight restrictions and making tight effective code. They are leaving excess data bits with long winded code that can be simplied and recieved the same with tight coding. shakes head
Now there is two tiers of the PS3, a 499.99 lower end variant as well as the higher variant 599.99. Now you wonder what the differences between the two tiers could be. Well I'll fill you in. First off you get a harddrive, finally sony gets the right idea and supplies a hdd instead of forcing the dedicated gamer to buy a special game in order to get it. Then most games are not capatible with the harddrive (PS2 hdd, not PS3) in the form of direct coping. You still needed to go through a memory card before going to the harddrive. But with the PS3, you can store up to 20gigabytes of data on the lower end and then 60 gigabytes on the better model.
First off, you might think "Gee whiz, my 8mb memory card for my PS2 held sooo much, it never got full. Why in the world would i need more than 20g?"
I can easily tell you why, now that games are getting much bigger in size on the disks, so are the saves. Inorder for the game to be saved, so much excess information has to be included. Such as "time from when you last played, time on the console to progress your game data, character model, location, etc...etc..etc.. It just keeps going on. So inorder to keep up with this growing bit of information, you need a larger storage medium. I mean on my Xbox 360 when I turned it on and looked at the HDD storage space, it has a 20g hdd already with it, but like 8gigs of it were already consumed by it when i first turned it on. As the console comes loaded with video details such as a "Special Edition: The Making of Titantic" Yes, I kid you not. The system comes with that trailer to flash off the HIGH-DETAIL. So when the new games are played and saved, those 20gs will be gone before you know it.
Now back to the PS3, the differences between the two models. The higher model has a HDMI slot on the console, while the lower model does not. "HDMI, whats that?" That's actually the cable that is connected between the PS3 and the TV. It is currently rated the best type of cable connection to allow the transference of HIGH-DEF signal between the two devices. Otherwise anything else is less than PAR and you loose out on what you pay for. So if you go with the 500 dollar model, you do not get that jack. So that basically make sthe BLU-RAY quality worthless and you lose out on Major Cash. Just to prove how high end that cable is that a local electronics store, Best Buy for example. That cable would cost a customer 149.99 just for a 3 foot cable. Thats how powerful it really is.
Now the controller designs for the PS3 are more bent, preassuming the shape of a boomerang. But mostly contains the same design and features as the Traditional PS controller execpt the fact that they copied Microsoft's idea to have a "GUIDE" button in the center of the controller which allows the person to get to the Console's Menu settings.
There will be a few launch games that will be worth seeing such as FFXIII which looks rather desirable. From what the trailors show it should be a very interesting game, but will they have fixed some of the older problems with RPGs such as having a good replay value as well as gameplay handling. Rumor has it that it will contain a similar Real time feel that FFX-2 contained. Now Final Fantasy Thirteen will be a thiree parter with one being on the PSP as a side mini game or something to that extent (Correct me if i'm wrong on that. I don't mind) as well as FFVII sequel games will be launched on PS3, which rumor has it will contain same graphic quality as Advent Children. Time wil tell on that stand point.
Not sure if this will make much of a differnece or not, but instead of the PS3 being made in Japan usually. It will be made in surplus in China, perhaps labor laws and fees are cheaper perhaps? Not sure if release on the console will be in China before Japan. Shrug only one way to find out on this launch. I do know that the PS3 will be Released on Novemeber 17, 2006 which seems to be the average release date for new consoles. As Xbox history has revealed that all major device releases have been during the month of November, (Xbox 1 released on Novemeber 15, 2000. AS Xbox live was released on November 15, 2001. Then on Novemeber 22, 2005 was the release of Xbox 360)
Now I would follow up with a informational released with laced opinions intermixed about the Xbox 360 but in this situation. Xbox 360 is really old news execpt a couple of hot item releases from E3. A add-on device will be released in the near future that will allow the 360 to be able to play High Defintion DVD movies (as perhaps games?) which will save some money on the market as I said before HD DVD players are very high in price as recent. As well as final release support on the Webcam feature for Xbox 360. It will be a standard USB connection so perhaps in use with PC perhaps? Hmm, but it will add a new twist in and perhaps be the superior camera unit versus the PS2 EYE-TOY which was a rather redundant and under-used dud. So only time will tell on those two accessories.
From there, I'm done with all three consoles about new information released at the Public release at E3.
Now it is time for me to nap once again.
