I just ran acrossed a message that I posted, like fifteen years ago, and just thought about how much I've grown and changed since typing those words:

9/11 was that catalyst. We're (USA) has already been steadily heading towards a socialist mentality. Big Brother? Look at the UK. They have traffic cams that watch your every move -- they even can convict somebody from these cameras. We've pretty much lost our right to privacy, and thanks to wikileaks, we're going to be loosing our freedom of speech soon.

Thanks a lot all ye Progressives! :censored:

After giving this topic some thought, I'm going to choose to remain optimistic, and that this law will not cripple the manga/anime industry.

I remember the aftermath of that comment, and I'm truly grateful that somebody took the time to correct me. Wow, was I completely brainwashed back then. And I think about how people interact with one another on the Internet today, and I can't help but shake my head. People really don't take the time to take somebody by the hand and say, "But you're incorrect..."

I know that I've practically done a 180 in terms of my political and social standings, which actually happened probably not too long after that original message was posted.

What about you? How much have you changed, if at all from your more youthful self?

Yeah sometimes having an outsider's perspective can really change your whole outlook on things. I know I was more immature 15 years ago, my wife and I would make stupid jokes and use the word "gay" to describe something that we didn't like... which unfortunately a lot of millennials used. (To be fair I was identifying as a lesbian then, that was before I fully came to terms with the fact that I'm a man not a woman.) Still that didn't give me the right to use the word in that way. I also was a lot more confrontational with people online. These days I try to keep my distance from people I know I won't be able to reason with. My anger issues were a lot worse 15 years ago, since I started transitioning I've mellowed out quite a bit too.
