So, years ago, I was fitted with some Redwing boots. It was the most comfortable pair of anything I'd ever put on my feet. Like melted butter on toast, kinda comfort. Those boots lasted a decent five years under a very abusive environment, and the sole cracked horizontally. Needless to say, I remembered the exact sizing of these boots.
When I moved to Boston, I went out searching for a replacement pair of boots. I found a local Redwing shop, but I didn't remember the style I had. And they didn't have my size. And they were REALLY expensive. So I settled for some Timberlands. Those worked okay, and did hold up for another five years before finally developing holes at the seam of the sole and side. Keeping in mind, it's February with lots of snow. Not a good feeling.
I get my tax return. I need boots. So, I started once again scouring the Redwing website for my favorite boots. I remembered some key details. The bottom side of the sole, the treads. The two quick-eye laces at the top. The pull tab at the rear to pull the boot on my foot. They weren't brown. And they were probably six-inchers. I found them. I had the money for them. I ordered.
Two weeks later, they arrived. I eagerly tried them on. Pain. Instant pain. Like what the hell? Supposedly, your adult feet don't continue to grow, right? I was in my late 30s when I had my feet professionally measured last time, and these boots fit like a glove. What gives? I double checked my notes, the size on the site. The reviews for sizing. They should have fit. So I returned them.
I traveled out to my local Redwing store again. Had my feet measured on their State-of-the-Art whatchamacallit, and it confirmed my foot size. 10.5-B. I tried on a pair of eight-inch boots in the exact same style. Those fit well. But I wanted six-inch. So, I ordered another pair, from another store to be delivered to this store. Had to pay in full right there. But at least, I got a discount.
Today, I got the phone call. My boots are in! So, I'm Ubering myself out there. Because screw taking the bus in this cold weather, waiting an hour between bus runs. $30 well spent (round trip), and I now have my boots!
Now, I was in the military. And the Air Force taught me how to put a good shine on a pair of boots. I had anticipated this. Bought a 16-piece kit a while ago. I'm going in style. I'm shining these bad boys up! So, I'm typing this as my first coat of wax dries. Then I'll buff 'em out, and apply the second layer. I'll need a good five or six layers of wax before I start getting that glass-shine that I'm after. This is using regular black shoe polish from Kiwi.
So, I'll post a picture after I'm done shining. It might not be today, but it should be no later than sometime this week.

This is with only three coats of polish, so I'll update with the changes in a reply. I really wish I took a base picture... in fact... here's the image from the website.
