Now it's my time for some assistence with a laptop
Trying to find it within 800-1400 dollars.
I've been shopping around for a laptop, I don't care about brand too much, as well as it isn't somethign that was made in someone's garage.
But it must have at least ::
Processor: Intel Centrio Dual Core T2300+ or AMD equiv.
Graphics card: Ati X700 + or Nvidia 6600 Go +
Weight: Under 6 pounds
LCD screen size: 14-16 inches
Battery life: Must last at least 3-5 hours under normal use and be able to withstand some heavy use for a few hours
Unique Feature: Must have Quikplay (HP) or Media one touch (dell) which basically shuts the entire notebook off and actually powers up the LCD screen and disk drive only as everything is completely turned off. That way it makes the battery last much much longer!
Wireless Card: Must have at least Wireless 802.11G WLAN, the bluetooth cards, i'm not sure if i want that or not
Hard drive: 60gig 5400 RPM ++
Ram: 512MB DDR2 (speed matters not, 533mhz is the most common i'm seeing) Max memory 2GB MIN (4GB would be nice)
OS: Windows Home, MC, or Pro. Matters not

Everything else doesn't matter to me. I've gotten some pricing, but i'm looking to see if anyone has any recommendations or suggestions.

err...

That an interesting request. Why dont you look on HP's or Dell's website? Seeing as (according to your restrictions) they are the only brands you can have.

Apart from that your requirements are actually pretty civil and well places. I can't suggest something tho' cos i hate both HP and Dell.

Goto Notebook Reviews and do a search. They have really in-depth reviews (done by the users of those laptops) and it'll be a good place to start narrowing down your selections based on the criteria that you search with.

[edit]Fixed the URL.[/edit]

Well, Gateway and Toshiba both have that feature which is a plus and i've already priced around from Dell, HP, Gateway and Toshiba.. Right now only Dell and HP are giving me some good pricing.
But i was wondering anyone had any other urls or websites that help in the search

If i were you I would look into the Core Duo's or wait a little for Merom / Core Duo 2 to come out... The Core Duo's already surpass AMD's laptop offerings but the Core Duo 2's will really whip them into shape.

Nah, I'm not dealing with AMD, i've already had 2 bad experiences with them and laptops and both were bad choices. I'm sticking with intel centrinos which actually are better for laptops, use less voltage for longer battery, more efficent under workloads as well as in doing different benchmarking tests you'll find that the centrino's are beating the pants off AMD turion's chipset as well as the AMD is much lesser in price which reflects why.

I'm aware the Quad Core Processor's are coming out but there's no release time until when.. it could be a couple of months or it could be next week. I know it wil knock the prices of dual core down..Thats why i'm looking at dual core high end. Right now i've got my eye set on a particular dell..

Price wise, I can't argue with that and I'd rather buy a laptop from my job place for hte awesome warranty they have. But.... feature wise and bang for the buck. It seems to be a awesome price.. as most Notebooks around that place at my job place have only 5400 RPM hdds, 6-8 cell batterys, T2400 or Less processors, most around 2250 or 2300 which is disappointing as well as some of the other features in them are really disappointing. Now I did get a price feature out, but to get a laptop from HP the DV5000t (Intel) and the differences between the two, the hp had the 7400 Go with 128 MB ram and 80g 5400 RPM, and 6/12 cell battery. I can't remember.. but other than that. Their identical..

What the hell are you talking about Lordvir.

Anyway, the Quad core is next year and its server only at this point. I am talking about waiting until august when the Merom or Core Duo 2 chips for laptops come out which have 40% more performance and 35% less power required at the top frequency (from ULV 1.16 to normal 2.33) these are dual cores with 2 x 4mb shared cache.

The price seems good on that one, though as usual get it and reinstall windows. I have no patience for all the pre-installed crap.

as usual search "dell e1505 problems" into google and really browse through the results.

I see, well i've already read a hefty amount of problems associated with that model but that seems to be common with any model of desktop or laptop. From what i've seen there's more good reviews about it than the negative. Although it's always a gamble with anything but the thing with dell, if you want help with hardware problems, you have to pay for it. Even if software you have to pay 100 dollars for software dowload and added support. Manufactur's warranty means nothing with dell, thats the catch with such low low prices..

Well originally the price of tha tlaptop with those type of features with dell is 2.2k but with a particular coupon code that i have. the price is reduced down to 1.4k which I'm quite fond of.

<edit1>

i've done some extensive reading with the new Conroe and Merom processors with benchmark comparisions between the amd FX-62 AM2 ( i believe that was it) it was quite impressive. So I might indeed wait for it, since this will push other laptop processor prices down much more.

Best Buy is a good place to go

Compaq is good. I got a compaq laptop. I have no problem with it. I have had it for 3 years.

i've grown to realize that opinions such as his are pretty much that well detailed and it's pointless to expect more than that. I'm not going to even bother to discredit his post with my own personal opinion backed up with proof.

Btw for a FYI update, the laptop was purchased, it's not my own but it's the family's laptop and it had the specs that I wanted. It was for like 1k which was awesome, or so I think. Design wise, looking at all the manufacturers such as Gateway, Toshiba, HP, Compaq, Dell, and Sony (well the more popular designs) I think their all very ugly and have very bad ergonomic designing. Execpt Dell, I think those laptops are quite stylish actually. HP is usually one of the better brands but I think their laptops look like swiss cheese with all those holes for expansion and crap which is never used.

yes ,there is a few choices on laptops.
me i got a new gateway with a turon chipset.
wide screen,80 gig hd,1 gig ram ,dvd burner
got it on sale at best buy for like 845.00 not bad.
though i may still get the toshiba quismo
imm trying to remember on tech tv i saw a kinda portable like desktop, like a laptop but much heaiver and 3 gig athalon chip 64 bit.but it was like 3,000
:woot:
for it .ouch
imm still happy with this gateway,it will encode ok and plays xvid, divix great to

Which one did you get?

Quote from: James on 19-Aug-2006 (Sat) @ 09:00:28I think what ever laptop you choose to get. It will be a good choose. I found out it is better for privacy reasons too. I store every thing on a exturnal hard drive. When I leave my apartment I hide the hard drive and the laptop. Yes they are in different locations to.

The connections you make are odd at best. Try to give some consistency to the topic, and try to reply to the topic at hand. Writing confusion and pointless replies will either just be deleted or ignored. You should try and reply as if this was a conversation, as if you were trying to interest us all. Otherwise people just ignore you and your post will be in vain.
