I just found this little gem on Threads, and now I'm sharing it with you. The mission: Search and Destroy:

  • Really / Very: Find a stronger word instead. We have thesauruses for a reason.
  • Suddenly: The action IS sudden.
  • Started to / Began to: she didn't start to run, she RAN.
  • That. Just delete it and re-read the sentence aloud. You may not need that.
  • Actually: You're arguing with someone who isn't there.
  • Somehow: You don't know ho either, apparently.
  • A bit / A little / Kind of. Stop being wishy-washy. Commit or cut!
  • In order to: Shorten to only to. This isn't a menu.
  • Felt / Saw / Heard / Noticed: Unnecessary filler words.

Skip this rule if these words are within dialogue. People say these things all the time, so keep them!
