I got a new Camera. It is a canon PowerShot A530 I also got a 1gig memory card with it too. I used it a few times. I like it alot. It has a 4x optical zoom. It is a good camera. I did some reading and looking around. From what I found out canon is a good camera to go with.

It's alright, I'm more of fan of the Canon A620 myself, same 4x optical but rather had higher megapixel. 7.2 versus your 5, although both use the same Digic II processor which is really terrific in photo quality. But one thing nice about that model is it's lcd screen was only 2 inch (same size) but the screen can swivel out to a 270 degree turn. Which is GREAT if you are at a concert and cannot position the camera right you can adjust the screen so you can still screen without being eye level with the camera. One downside of the battery capacity was that it took 4 of them which had a stronger strain on the battery life versus the A530 had only 2 battery required for the charge.

Now there is a smiliar model to the A620, it would be the earlier model the A610 which is a 5-MP but almost the same as the 7.2
the A610 was under 300 i believe while the A620 was 350

Here is a good website for camera reviews
Following is a review for the Canon A620

But either way Canon is one of the best brands to go with for Cameras

I did see that Canon. I almost did buy it. 5.0 pixels are good for me. but 7.0 is better.

Which in reality, it still doesn't compare versus FILM 35mm cameras unless you are looking at the at least 10 megapixel camera and most 3x optical zoom do not equal standard 35mm zoom which is usually like 28-120+ unless you are looking at 5x ++

You cant talk about cameras 'simply' lordvir.

I ignore the megapixels on cameras, in the past i bought a camera that said 6 million but it took 3 million pixel images and blew them up.

7 million pixels is actually crap quality, you can barley get that too go on an A3 sheet of paper.

Will that might have been a crappy camera you bought, having 2 much gross megapixel and the true effective was actually much lower. Thats why it varies with so many different models and brands like megapixel is thing you do consider but that does not truly guage the camera. As the megapixel way to compare cameras was setup as a marketing ploy to show to camera idiots which ones are good and which ones are bad. Which in all reality it masks the good ones and convinces people to buy crappy cameras. The megapixel in reality only serves as a way to show that you can get bigger resolution for your photos.

"If I can get a Sony 6 MP for cheaper than a Canon 5 MP, then it must be good!" followed by, "Sony, a name you can trust. They've been in the business forever and know what they are doing. Everythign sony makes is the best out there" Then I just tell them okay..... and walk away from them. Sony Fanatics drive me nuts...

But a good website to check out for camera reviews as i've listed before www.dpreview.com. There's a another website that I can't remember the exact link but it has photos taken with all the popular models of digital cameras and you can see in detail the differences between camera models.

What model of camera did you buy in the past IWWLBT?

Cant remember, was a pile of
:cussing:
, for my cousin, he hated it, bought him a d70 instead.

I use a mixture of high end nikons and lowend hasselblads in my work, so im not in that market thank god. Anywhere where there is 28% + of the population haggeling for xyz then i just go for something more expensive. Far more trustworthy.

Which high end nikons are you refering to, like DSLR range or perhaps just High-end Traditional DSC? Now the Nikon 8700, thats a beast of a camera.. Don't know too much of the specs on it but from what i've seen it does a very nice job for being jsut below DSLR. With DSLRs, I would have to lean more towards Nikon as imo, their quality of photos in this category as well as detail seem to be much more wholesome. I'm not sure if it's from the quality of the lens or from the actual sensors inside the camera.

too bad I don't see a whole lot of nikon over at my jobplace, primarily just sony, canon with kodak here and there with possibly panasonic. As most of the newer model of Nikons, I just don't like like the L4-L2 as well as the S4 and S6 were major letdowns. I prefer the 5600 Coolpix much more than this newer models. If only they had a bigger screen then I would be more partial. Don't get me wrong about nikon, I love their cameras and what not, but I'm just not impressed with some of their newer models.

James thats bollocks, its stupid things like that that make you buy completly the wrong things, and probably too much stuff also. You cant say out and out that canon is better, why? Its just like how you cant say that macintoshs are better than pcs, each have their distinct advantage. By saying flat out that something is better than something else you are saying that it is perfect. Canon's have crap life cycles and their RAW format is worth
:cussing:
. Which are two things, professional photographers like me look for in a camera, a sturdy body and a good raw format.

When i say high end i say D200 upwards (occasionly a d70 or d100for home use) mainly a good d2x. I dont use film for my line of work, put for my more artistic adventures i do, anyways i far prefer film anyway, for too many reasons, only reason i use digital most of the time is the ease of use. And all the snazzy crappy affects clients want me too past onto pictures.
