I remember growing up with Star Trek: The Next Generation, and it shall always hold a special place in my heart, even though I loved Voyager as well. And although I never really got into the Original Series (TOS), as I'm getting older, I'm beginning to yearn to watch it. But let's talk about some of the differences between the different seasons.

TOS. The Original Series ran during the late 60s, and was considered a very progressive show for its time. The mixing of different human cultures, the utopia that mankind had achieved. This was a highly optimistic show-- especially considering how we've actually progressed into the 21st century. Anyway, from what I understand, this is a story about exploration of the galaxy. "A five year mission". Going firmly into the realm of the imagination. I won't necessarily comment on the special effects showcased in this series, only because I'm not familiar with the series just yet.

TNG. The Next Generation ran during the 90s, and as I mentioned above, I grew up on this. I was a teenager, and my nightly routine involved sitting on the living room floor with my dinner, eyes glued to my small television. Next Generation was awesome because of all the shiny technology and special effects used, although quite quaint by today's standards. But I believe that this season lost its way from the original purpose of the show. While it was still progressive, it seemed to navigate into the drama of intra-galactic politics instead of focusing on exploration. That is until Q showed up and shoved the Borg down the Federation's throat. However, most of the seven years of shows I seem to recall, the majority of them had some element of diplomacy entangled with the exploration.

DS9. Deep Space Nine. I was never really interested in this show. Yes, I realize now that this could be an interesting concept to explore, but a space station just seems ... boring to me. It doesn't go anywhere, doesn't explore anything unknown. In fact, it centers on diplomacy and the various factions of the known galaxy. With this being said, I'll admit that I have yet to actually sit down and watch this season.

Voyager. I was thrilled about this season when it aired. True unknown exploration! The Delta Quadrant, far, far away from home, no resources, no diplomacy-- although that was also worked into the plot. A hodge-podge assembled crew forced to get along and work together, with mostly a singular goal: To get home safe. We really got to explore the newer technology of the 24th century in this season! And we're back to the more diverse crew too!

I know there's more seasons that have been produced, in fact rather recently with Star Fleet Academy (?) I think is the name of it. I need to find somewhere and some time to sit and enjoy this season too. Anyway, what are your thoughts on the Star Trek Franchise?

So, I just found this picture. And I'm really not sure what I'm thinking right now....

A combination of sadness, but nostalgia. and more sadness, because the world that these actors portrayed...feels like it's a distant memory, that it's died already.
