I feel confident that most people have at least heard of Star Wars, even if you've never seen it? (Who are you, and why haven't you seen this yet?!) Anyway, this is the epic tale of good vs evil, and about a boy-- although that boy is NOT Luke Skywalker. It's actually a story about his father, Anakin Skywalker, and how power corrupts a person to do horrible things to others. This is also a classic story of an oppressive empire versus a small population of rebels who fight for freedom against the authorities.
Star Wars is considered a Soft Science Fiction. Meaning that we don't need to have detailed knowledge of the physics of how things work, they just do. And I believe this is one reason why so many people are drawn to the setting of Star Wars. Literally, your imagination is the limit as to what future technology is available. And then of course, there's the entire galaxy to play around in. Countless species, factions, political ideologies, and cultural values can be explored within this fandom.
But buried within the plot are morals, ethics, and values of Humanity's core. How emotions change a character's personality. The struggle of fear, hatred, greed, and pride. The balance of hope, love, and compassion. Each one of us could be included within the pages of this story-- who wouldn't want to be hopping across the galaxy with hyper-drives and armadas of capital class cruisers?
