I remember the movie Stargate that came out in the late 90s. It was an interesting take on exploring the galaxy. Instead of hopping in a spaceship, you teleport through a network of wormholes-- and it's set in the present day, which in my opinion, makes it much more relatable.

While the movie was pretty good, when a television series staring Richard Dean Anderson debuted, I was psyched! I remember watching MacGyver as a child. And Anderson didn't disappoint! His witty, sarcastic personality, I believe made that show the epic success that it became. Sure, the technology was cool. The lore surrounding Atlantis was neat, the battle with the Ga'uld was provocative. But when Anderson retired from the production of the show, he took with it some of the magic that made it epic. It lost some of its charm. But going strong for ten years, that's a long time. How much further can writers continue to up the ante to challenge the heroes? I'd say a good end point was at the ultimate battle between science and religion. Logic versus Belief.

What do you think of this series?
