Hot or Cold brew (coffee), which one packs more punch?

I'm an avid coffee lover. I adore my coffee, not just for the flavor, but for the kick it can potentially give this tired old girl. I was always under the impression that based on studies that cold brew delivered more caffeine. However, I've been drinking Cold Brew made with my Ninja Hot/Cold Coffee Machine for the past two weeks, and I've been falling asleep on the but TO work in the morning!

So today, I decided to do some research. Turns out that Hot Brew coffee contains more caffeine than Cold Brew does, especially the way I've been brewing my Cold Brew. Cold Brew coffee does have more caffeine than Hot Brew, if the brewing process is performed over the traditional 24-hour infusion time. My coffee machine makes a half pot within 30 minutes. Now, let's look at the caffeine differences, and note that the Cold Brew is diluted further with the addition of ice. Both of these numbers are for an 8-ounce cup of coffee.
  • Hot Brew: 90 - 120 mg
  • Cold Brew: 40 - 80 mg
It should be noted that depending on the type of beans used, and the exact extraction process used, Cold Brew can result in up to 200 mg caffeine per ounce of beverage!

I don't get to be picky. I don't own a cold brew, so if I want one, I have to make hot coffee and then chill it!

That being said, I generally like cold drinks better. =3

Woooah, $200? That must be a very nice machine! Unfortunately due to poverty, that's 2 months disposable income for me. xD

Wait... you have disposable income?
Yes! Very little, but enough that I can treat myself to nice things sometimes.

Speaking of which, I got my coffee maker early (My mom just happened to have one she wasn't using) and I had a tasty cup of coffee after dinner. I am mildly resistant to caffeine and sugar, so I've never been one to worry too much about sleep.

Really!! I have no idea why people would choose a Keurig. Sure it's... a bit faster. But it's noticeably yuckier more of a pain to clean. 😭

I've had a Keurig, and an imitation knock-off. Yeah, great for a single cup at a time, but I'm on my fourth 15oz mug (it's my Saturday)! I really like my coffee! And freshly ground espresso beans for the extra win!

Actually, we donated our Keurig to a needy person in New Hampshire a couple months ago. We used it a few times, but making cup after cup after cup becomes tedious. I'd rather make an entire pot at once.

I can drink coffee black out of a proper coffee maker. But the Keurig has ... a bitter taste to it. If I were to speculate, its temperature regulation just isn't as precise and it burns the beans a bit, sort of like a percolator does. But I also have autistic tastebuds. Y'know how like, some autistic people are really sensitive to touch? My tastebuds are sensitive like that. So it might justb e something other people can't taste.

My mother changed her chili recipe a while ago. It went from being my favorite foods to something so bitter it would make me barf unless I mix in a decent amount of a flavorful sauce. She cannot taste the difference and has no idea what she changed, claiming she didn't change anything.

Aw man! I miss a good chili! I used to make a really good chili, but I stopped making it, and now that I'm trying to remember how to make it, it's like my brain went on Idiot-Mode or something, because I can't figure out how to get that awesomeness back!
