I've been thinking about adding a Discord extension for a couple of weeks now. Personally, I'm not so sure it's a good idea, because in my experience, the live chat subtracts conversations from the forum. This could be a good thing if the conversations are small talk, you know "How's the weather?" or "What I ate for dinner." types of content. However, this could be devastating to the growth of the forum because sometimes contained within those small talk types of conversations, real gems of topics are brought up.

I know that Discord seems to be popular among other role players, and being that Prismatica is a part of that community, we should adhere to the same standards, I guess? What do you think, should we add Discord, or do without it, and allow that to be one of the things/advantages that set's our site apart from all the others?

Another strong reason to not have Discord is the high attention for traffic that's consumed. Part of the best part of role playing on a forum instead of on something like Discord is the relaxed pace of the gaming. If we add Discord, people would have to pay closer attention to the site, and although that could be a beneficial to the site as a whole, it's also a burden that I don't think we necessarily want to add to our player base.

Enividly had a discord but i decided to get rid of it to focus on the forums so i personally say no,
But as you grow and get more loyal members its very possible to operate both more easily :.)

if you use discord there really ain’t point of a forums. Focus on this you are doing well just keep being creative through the highs, and lows.

I think Discords can be unintentionally harmful to forum communities. First people wanna chat there, which is fine. Then they wanna move other things there, and that creates a problem that ultimately kills the forum if it's left unchecked.

I would say if you do decide to do it, make sure it's just a chat and there's no RPing areas. That's the line you don't want to cross because once you do it's painful to uncross it. ||D

That being said, I would enjoy being able to put my Discord on my profile.

That allows you to log into the forum using your Discord identity credentials. I'll have to look at it, because I got the same error. I may just take the plunge and on my next paycheck get the full Discord integration extension that allows for the same login functionality and more. But that's like $30... if I can't figure the solution to the problem we currently have.

And thinking about this, I wonder if the other login methods are working properly. I know for a fact Google works, but I haven't sufficiently tested the others.

I dislike bumping threads without posting anything substantive, so it kind of feels weird to bring up the question of whether we should have Discord or not. My two cents is I actually prefer the Prismatica format to Discord, so I voted No on those grounds. Still, I think it's an open question. (Also, if two-thirds of everyone else who voted in the poll thinks the same as me, I'm in good company.)
