Lately I've been thinking about my own writing in terms of what I do when I want to write, while I don't do it all the time. If I ever feel stuck, or hit a wall, sometimes I do end up drinking a beer or two to lower my inhibitions a bit. Sometimes I proof read it later, or if I'm doing it in an RP or If it's an 'in the moment' type of thing. Sometimes I don't, but if it's one of those I do try to read it over at least once or twice before sticking it through. Of course, while I don't try to lean on it, or do it all that much (Less I end up like many writers of the past.) However I do find it often helps with confidence and shuts down my critic. What do you all think about writing with some intoxication?
There are countless songs (at least from the 80s) that were clearly written when the artists were totally high as a kite... and they were like platinum albums. Lots are my favorites to this day. And when I go back and study some of the lyrics.... I'm like...
I say, you do you!
While I've most stopped drinking because ... I'm really freakin' poor right now, and I'm trying to protect my liver... because I've totally killed it with daily 4000 mg doses of Ibuprofen so that I can still stand up and do my Retail job everyday, I'd welcome sitting down with a drink... or maybe trying to get high once I can afford it again. I really do miss my eccentric imagination. But first, I think I need to restore my default energy levels. God, it sucks being OLDer.
Maybe I just need some of that spontaneous group writing energy. Pass me a Jolt...
I don't drink or do drugs, but hey if you want to consume alcohol or other drugs and get those creative juices flowing there's nothing wrong with that! I can imagine you could come up with some hilarious, off the wall stories while writing when you're high on something.
